Mastering Woodwork: Crafting Artisan Furniture

For every project, a meticulous selection of slabs is made based on factors such as wood kind, size, form, colour, and grain pattern. A tree’s natural shape typically dictates how it is used. As a skilled craftsman, Greg envisions the furniture in a single plank of wood.

Once selected, it is stored for a minimum of six months. Over the years, we have sourced and collected many different varieties of wood that have been carefully selected, stored and naturally seasoned, some for over 4 years!

The technique known as "seasoning of timber" involves allowing wood to dry out under controlled circumstances before using it. When wood is well seasoned, it keeps it from changing shape and size when used to manufacture wooden products, in addition to making it stronger and avoiding wood rot. This can be done naturally over time, or a quicker artificial method where the wood is dried in a kiln / drying chamber. In order to be usable for a project, wood must be kiln or air-dried to a moisture level of under 20%

Once the wood is seasoned, it is ready for transformation.

Now the real process of creation begins.

Measure Twice, Cut Once – the pinnacle of woodworking.

We take our time in crafting, as we believe that patience and perseverance are more crucial than turnaround time when creating a beautiful masterpiece. Our furniture is designed to showcase the wood’s natural shape, elevate flaws in its form, accentuate its grain and transform its functionality. All this is done with skill and care, using equipment that requires a lot of work – a real labour of love!
